Chief Tanod Gunned Down

Jerry Domingo, a barangay tanod in Darigayos, Luna, La Union was shot dead last June 9, 2010, at 9:00PM. Barangay Captain Virgilio Garipe says that the victim went to visit a relative who came from abroad and was allegedly shot when the victim was on his way home with his cousin in the said barangay by unknown suspects. In an interview through Bombo Radyo, the barangay captain said that they heard gunshots and barrio folks reported that it was the chief “tanod” who had been injured. Upon learning the incident, he reported it to the Philippine National Police who called for the ambulance for Domingo’s body to be brought to the hospital by which the victim was declared dead on arrival.

Garipe recalled that the victim was already lifeless when found at the crime scene and authorities are still waiting for the official autopsy report to determine the victim’s exact cause of death while police continuously investigates the crime. The victim is said to have been gunned using a .45 caliber pistol and was also stubbed on his back, different parts of his body when found at the scene. Meanwhile, the barangay captain of Darigayos dismissed that the incident has something to do with politics citing that his area of responsibility has only encountered similar crime once, this being the second. He also suspects that the gunner may not come from his barangay. The victim’s company that night is still in the state of shock and authorities are still getting his official statement to aide in the resolve of the incident. The victim is known to be a good man, an industrious “tanod” for many years despite having very low honorarium and was not known to have any feud.
